Young rookie defenceman Arber Xhekaj has done a tremendous job on the ice since the beginning of the season. He's still learning and developing at a rapid pace with the Habs.

Yesterday, the 21-year-old delivered an excellent performance on the ice, contributing to his team's attack and rebound, in addition to getting his second goal of the campaign. He has four points in 13 games so far.

He is currently doing everything he can to make himself indispensable to the Tricolore, but despite his very interesting performances, he is in danger of losing his place in the lineup very soon.

With Michael Matheson expected to return to action soon, bad news could be imminent for one of the organization's defencemen.

With the performances of Kaiden Guhle and Jordan Harris, it's inconceivable that either of them will leave when Matheson returns. With Joel Edmundson and David Savard healthy, there would only be one spot left on the defensive squad.

The CH's defensive top-6 is as follows:

Guhle (left-handed) - Savard (right-handed)Edmundson (Left) - Xhekaj (Left)Harris (Left) - Kovacevic (Right)

With the addition of Chris Wideman being left out, this leaves only one position for Xhekaj, Wideman and Kovacevic. Given that the other two are right-handed players and Matheson is left-handed, the odds are not in favour of the man known as 'Wifi'.

And while he definitely doesn't deserve to be sent back to Laval, the fact that he's the only one of the three who doesn't have to go through the ballot also works against him.

The Habs are very unlucky in their luck this season, as there have been virtually no new injuries since the start of the season, other than those who were already injured in the opening game like Edmundson, Armia and Matheson.

This means that there is a continual surplus of depth in the team and this means that difficult decisions have to be made by the club management.

Some heartbreaking choices are in store for the Habs in the near future.
