Kent Hughes confides before the start of the season

The Journal de Montréal's Jonathan Bernier spoke with the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens before the start of the regular season on October 12.

Several topics were covered in the interview, including his popularity.

«It comes with the job. While I'm working, I want to be able to concentrate without being interrupted. But, if I'm able to do it and it makes someone happy, I'll do it. I don't want to sit in the corner and not talk to anyone," he stressed.

He is not yet comfortable with all this attention.

«Sometimes it's embarrassing, because I feel people are looking at me on the street. I try to find a balance between looking at my feet and saying hello to people," he quipped.

"I don't want to be arrogant. I'm aware and hopeful that I'll always have the humility to know that it's not me, but the position I hold that makes people want to talk to me," the general manager continued.

Hughes shared a hilarious anecdote with his wife.

«Recently, my wife and I went to a restaurant for dinner. At one point, she told me I was talking too loud. I didn't care, because she always told me I was too loud. And then she insisted: "Don't talk too loud because everyone is watching you. You are now the general manager of the Canadian." I forget that I don't go unnoticed anymore.»

Finally, former Canadiens president Pierre Boivin gave him one piece of advice.

«Last week, I met Pierre Boivin [former president of the Canadiens] at an event. I asked him if he had any advice for me. »»
