Canadiens fans weren't too thrilled with David Reinbacher's selection at No. 5 overall. The more we get to know the youngster and his potential, the more the dust settles, but that wasn't the case last June. While the behind-the-scenes report on the Canadiens' draft just came out this week, a quote by Jeff Gorton made us, and many fans, react enormously. When you draft 5th overall... An organization has very few opportunities to add top-level talent, it's very difficult. You can't really do it through the free-agent market anymore. You have to overpay for older players. So, to acquire special talent, you have to draft them or get very lucky. Sometimes we take risks. It seems like this room is telling us, 'No, we don't want to take that chance,' so I want to make sure we're making the right decision. - Jeff Gorton Of course, here he was talking about Matvei Michkov and questioning the scouts' decision. They were very comfortable passing over a possible generational talent and selecting Reinbacher. Gorton's statement says what most fans were thinking when Carey Price mentioned the Austrian's name.
