Alex Newhook is currently in town, as are the majority of Habs players, in preparation for the fast-approaching training camp. The newcomer has yet to play a game with the CH, of course, but Martin St-Louis made an interesting statement about him. I haven't seen him play live myself. I know how he was used in Colorado and I've been very careful in going to watch videos of him because I want to have my own opinion in our environment. I don't want to base my opinion on what he's done in an environment and context I don't really know. I know his strengths. He has an excellent skating stroke, he doesn't tire, he's competitive and now it's a question of trying to find out what else he can do. What are his qualities? What does he need to work on? Where is he most comfortable? But we know he can play on the power play, he can kill penalties, he can play center, he can play wing. - Martin St-Louis The coach seems to have a good opinion of his new player and, as usual, a great approach to trying to make him even better. The best part of his statement about Newhook is yet to come: What I'm excited about is that I feel like we have a hockey player. I don't think I have a young hockey player, and there's a big difference. We'll see how he fits in with the team. - Martin St-Louis That means a lot. It's often said that we separate the men from the children, and Newhook is one of the men according to St-Louis. He's ready to help the team right now, he's not in development.
