The Panthers kicked their season off last night as they took on the Minnesota Wild in Minnesota. It was a rough start to the season for the Stanley Cup finalists.

Tkachuk Laid Out By Foligno

During the game, Wild forward Marcus Foligno decided to take a shot at Panthers superstar Matthew Tkachuk. He hit the Panthers forward near the benches, way away from where the puck was. The Panthers bench was not pleased to say the least, as they called for a penalty.

The on-ice officials agreed with the Panthers bench and gave Foligno a minor penalty for interference on the play. The Panthers squandered the opportunity and eventually lost the game 2-0.

Panthers Look To Bounce Back After Rough Season Opener

The Panthers find themselves in a situation where expectations are suddenly through the roof. After they went on a long playoff run last year, defeating the record-setting Boston Bruins in the process, many now expect them to find sustained success. So far the team has failed to live up to those expectations but it is not time to panic in Florida.

Not much can be taken away from just one game other than the fact that the Panthers lost. They should be able to come back and win their next game relatively easily as long as they put the puck in the net. Scoring is not something the team struggled with last year.
