Goaltending Continues to be the Driving Factor in the Oilers Currently Losing Streak
This year the expectation was for the Oilers to be a favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Three months into the season some major changes have taken place with coaching changes and inconsistent play. But the same issue keeps appearing. The lack of goaltending. Although in some cases you can't always just blame Skinner, as Jim Matheson points out.

The Oilers special teams were awful. That's what they lost, not goaltending... https://t.co/ct2EFLgrLX Jim Matheson (@jimmathesonnhl) December 20, 2023
Allowing 3 goals on just 18 shots is pretty horrible netminding. But scoring just 1 goal will not even allow for Skinner to keep you in the game. Whether it be fatigue for playing too many games in a row, or just poor defense in front of Skinner. He needs to stop most shots to be in a game. But in the end, Holland should be taking the blame, paying Jack Campbell $5 Million a season when he cannot get it together in the AHL. This leaves the Oilers in a tough spot. Holland should have known that goaltending was going to be a factor for this year and he did nothing to fix it. Holland will need to find a way to fix this issue, or it could be his last year as a GM in Edmonton.
