An interesting transaction proposal was recently unveiled, involving the Montreal Canadiens. According to insider Elliotte Friedman, the Washington Capitals are clearly interested in acquiring Vancouver Canucks forward Andrei Kuzmenko. In his first NHL season last year, the Russian had a great baptism of fire with 74 points in 81 games, including 39 goals. He arrived out of nowhere to carve out an important place for himself on the Canucks' offensive roster. This season, however, he seems to have a little less confidence from the coach and management. Still, his output is very respectable, with 17 points in 29 games. His situation is therefore attracting the interest of a number of other NHL teams, who would be willing to pay an attractive price to acquire the 27-year-old winger. I think Washington is a team that has looked at Kuzmenko, but I just don't see a trade possibility with them, it's not like the Canucks are going to take Anthony Mantha - Elliotte Friedman That's where Anthony Mantha comes into the discussion, given that the Caps will likely have to liquidate his contract to bring a player like Kuzmenko into their ranks. The Canadiens have already expressed an interest in the Quebecer in the past. No (the Canucks can't take Mantha), but the Montreal Canadiens could. He has a contract expiring this summer at 5.7 million. I would absolutely absorb his contract to add more assets.

This is how the trade will look like: MONTREAL Receives: Anthony Mantha + 1st or 2nd Round Pick WASHINGTON Receives: Andrei Kuzmenko VANCOUVER Receives: A pick/prospect We'll see what happens next, but the Tricolore could serve both the Canucks and Caps by getting involved in this three-team deal...
