The Rookie Tournament is now over and many of the Habs' prospects have been a big surprise. We were all looking forward to seeing Juraj Slafkovsky, Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris and company, but we never thought Arber Xhekaj would be the most talked about player. But he is. Xhekaj has played some great games and has used his strengths to play his way, without distorting himself. Invited in studio with Jean-Charles Lajoie, Renaud Lavoie had some sharp words for the young defenseman: « He (Xhekaj) only knows one way to play, whether it's in a rookie game, a prep game (...) no matter what level he's going to play at, he always plays the same way, he also mentioned. To hurt? No. But when you jump on the ice, like in a rookie camp, you absolutely have to prepare your players. - Renaud Lavoie The reporter blames the Senators organization in passing, mentioning that they did not do their homework, referring to the prospect Viktor Lodin who was injured by a contact with Xhekaj : « It's a shame, because Viktor Lodin doesn't know that he (Xhekaj) is on the ice, at least he doesn't protect himself, he explained. I call it education. Who is on the ice? When Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers is on the ice, you have to know that. » Renaud continued to compare Arber Xhekaj to Jacob Trouba by saying that both players only know one way to play and don't deviate from that, no matter how big the game is. They are both heavy and strong defenders, but they also have talent. The reporter is confident that Xhekaj will play in the NHL in the near future.
