Many are speculating that the Blue Jackets are actively shopping defenseman Adam Boqvist after the team has made a series of interesting moves to start the year. Former 6th overall pick David Jiricek was called up from the AHL before playing a single game there and he has played four of the team's five games to start the season.
Jiricek Is Here To Stay
The move came after star defenseman Zach Werenski suffered an injury in the first game of the year. Werenski has since returned from that injury though and yet, Jiricek remains on the roster.

If that trend remains the same, that leaves 23-year-old defenseman Adam Boqvist on the short end of the stick. With Jiricek on the roster, the Blue Jackets are currently rostering five right-side defensemen, plus Jake Bean who can play both sides. Something is going to have to give at some point as that situation is not sustainable. The logical solution would be either to make a trade or send Jiricek down. As far as trade candidates go, Biqvist seems like he would be the most likely candidate on the right side. Damon Severson is not going anywhere after signing a 7-year deal with the team and Jiricek certainly isn't going anywhere any time soon.
