Some NHL players have slowly begun to embrace neck protection after the tragic passing of Adam Johnson last weekend. One NHL star on the Buffalo Sabres is leading the charge.

Dahlin Wears Neck Protector In Game

Rasmus Dahlin became the first NHLer to wear a neck guard in an actual game on Wednesday when the Sabres took on the Flyers. He was seen wearing an undershirt with some built in neck protection during the game.

Shorty after this, several NHLers were seen sporting new neck wear across the league. Among the most prominent players to be spotted using neck guards are Neal Pionk, Erik Karlsson, and TJ Oshie.

Giroux Joins Neck Guard Movement

According to NHL reported Bruce Garrioch, Senators star forward Claude Giroux stated that he will be wearing a neck guard when the Senators take on the Tampa Bay Lightning this evening.

It is notable that a veteran like Giroux would consider making such a change so late into his career. The 35-year-old likely has not worn a neck guard in nearly 20 years if he was ever required to wear one at all. Luckily, technology has advanced to the point where modern neck protectors are far less cumbersome and awkward than they were 20 years ago.
