Samuel Montembeault in Toronto? One expert is seriously linking his name to the Maple Leafs

There is a lot of movement in the NHL right now. The majority of the Eastern Conference clubs have made big acquisitions for the playoffs.

The Maple Leafs have hit the ground running with several acquisitions to solidify their roster. The only weakness the organization has yet to address is in front of the net.

With Matt Murray sidelined, the Leafs have to rely on unreliable Ilya Samsonov and inexperienced goalie Justin Woll.

To address this glaring need, TSN expert Craig Button made a big statement last night. Here is what he had to say:

"They need a goalie with NHL experience. Not necessarily a number one goalie, but a goalie with experience. I have no problem with Ilya Samsonov, but Matt Murray has proven that he's not able to stay healthy."

Of the only two names he named, Samuel Montembeault is one of them:

"Samuel Montembeault of the Canadiens and Kevin Lankinen of the Predators."

It created a huge debate as to whether the Habs would actually be open to trading one of their goalies. Obviously, if Jake Allen had been the target, there would have been plenty of food for thought.

However, given the progress of the Quebecer this season, while he is only 25 years old, I do not believe that such a transaction could happen, especially since the organization currently has no goalie close to replace him in Montreal.

Would the CH dare to trade Montembeault?

Of course, in life, everything has a price, but clearly, the Maple Leafs will not give the moon for a second goalie, and I doubt that Kent Hughes will accept to get rid of Montembeault other than by an almost derisory offer.

Remember also that Hughes had mentioned in a press conference that he was not interested in trading his young goalie.

We'll see what happens between now and Friday.
