Since receiving the status of outstanding player at the age of 15, success seems to have gone to Shane Wright's head. So much so that he didn't take it well when he was selected in the fourth round of the last draft. Mathias Brunet was interviewed by Martin Lemay on BPM Sports and he didn't have good news about the young Wright's character: « Shane Wright scored a beautiful goal in an intrasquad game with 10 seconds left, the winning goal. A typical shot, a good shot! And he (Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol) said, ''You remembered the goal and I remembered a lot of other things.'' Feck that, I thought, ''I'll bring it back,'' that's good. I'm an open-minded person. Just because people like (Juraj) Slafkovsky doesn't mean Wright isn't good or the other way around. That's the flower side. They said they were going to give him every chance to start in the National League. But I was watching a podcast with the beat guy from Seattle and it seems that a few times on the ice during practice, he threw fits at the AHL coaches. It worried him. At one point, Dan Bylsma gave an instruction and he looked at him and said, What the hell is this? It's a little bit of a worry. I'm giving you both sides of the coin, but the guy on the podcast picked it up! - Mathias Brunet This kind of behavior coming from an 18-year-old player in front of professional coaches, including Stanley Cup-winning Dan Bylsma, is pretty standard. It says a lot about why three teams turned their noses up at him. Let's hope Shane Wright gets his act together, because he's still a field hockey player, but even a player of exceptional status can't do anything if he doesn't take the advice of his coaches.
