At present, Matt Murray's performance has hit a low point in his career, causing the coach of the Leafs, Sheldon Keefe, to reach his breaking point.

After the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 5-3 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes, despite having more shots on goal (44-28), coach Sheldon Keefe had to assign blame. The team's defeat was largely due to Matt Murray's subpar .821 save percentage.

In an attempt to be diplomatic, Keefe tried to soften the criticism of Murray during his post-game remarks.

"He did a decent job for us. However, consistently winning becomes challenging when you need to score more than four goals. Matt has to figure out how to prevent one or two of those."

With a dismal .885 save percentage and a 3.68 GAA this season, it's clear that Murray can no longer be considered a dependable player.

As a result, many fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs now believe that Ilya Samsonov is the more likely choice to start in goal during the playoffs.

Should the Leafs find themselves unable to retain the services of Ilya Samsonov, it could potentially create a chaotic situation for the team next year.
