Canuck's GM Patrik Allvin didn't mince his words following the J.T. Miller trade, putting his star forward Elias Pettersson on notice.

Canucks GM Patrik Allvin just turned up the heat on Elias Pettersson a little hotter when he shipped out J.T. Miller.

Allvin expects Pettersson to step up a lot more going forward

If there was any question, GM Patrik Allvin said Saturday more is expected from the star forward.

«That's part of being a professional hockey player, especially when you commit to that kind of contract,» Allvin said, per NHL.com.

«My expectation is higher on him than anyone else on our team, and I expect him to meet my expectation, and I expect him to meet his own expectation, and so far he has not done that," Allvin added.

"If you talk to him, he's disappointed, but he's aware of it, and I know that he's capable, and he will work at it.» Allvin said.

The supremely skilled Pettersson has done little to justify it, scoring a mere 33 points in 45 games this season even after an eight-year, $92.8 million extension handed out in March 2024. He didn't fare any better in the playoffs last spring.

The Canucks on Friday traded away last season's 102-point man Miller to the rival New York Rangers in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 2025 first-round pick, putting even greater pressure on Pettersson.

Allvin knows firsthand the hard times Pettersson went through, but he speaks of his belief in the player continuing to improve.

This wasn't a move about taking sides for Allvin; it was about strengthening depth, and that's left Pettersson a very good opportunity to rise, echoed the Canucks GM.
