If there's a gap on the Habs' roster, it's on the right side of defense. According to Marc Antoine Godin, Kent Hughes is very interested in two experienced right-handed backs. First, Connor Carrick is a 29-year-old defenseman who scored 44 points in 63 AHL games last year. He has 242 games of NHL experience. Second is Dylan McIlrath. He has 72 games of experience in the Bettman circuit and is more of a defensive player. If Kent Hughes signs these two players, it's probably to help Laval and add depth to the team. According to Godin, there shouldn't be many major signings by the Canadiens today.

I don't expect much action from the Habs when the autonomous player market opens, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got their hands on a veteran right-handed defenseman to play in Laval, a Connor Carrick or Dylan McIlrath type of guy.- Marc Antoine Godin (@MAGodin) June 30, 2023
 Credit: RDT
