A deal for Connor McDavid is difficult to imagine. It would be a transaction that would be above and beyond the Wayne Gretzky trade, and it would alter the NHL as a whole. Although it is difficult to imagine, it is a real possibility. A trade would be the obvious choice if McDavid informs the Oilers management that he has no intention of signing a new contract. Paul Bissonette of Spittin' Chiclets put it as such: They should go to Connor and say 'Are you considering re-signing here?' And if not try to get as big a return as possible. It isn't a crazy idea to imagine that McDavid is growing tired in Edmonton, as he spends as much time as he can in his California home. I think at some point living in Edmonton and being in those surroundings.... my understanding is that Connor has a house in California and that he escapes to California quite a bit, just to get away from all the noise, said Bissonnette.

With 3 years left on McDavid's deal, a trade would likely happen in the 2024-25 season.
