Brendan Gallagher has been part of the Canadiens family since 2010. However, in recent seasons, his production has dropped considerably, making it difficult for him to stay healthy and justify his salary. Despite the fact that he's much loved in Montreal, we know what his salary means for the team. Not many fans would be shocked to learn that number 11 has been traded, if that happens. However, if we are aware of how heavy his contract is for the performances he brings in, other teams know it too. A trade therefore seems highly unlikely in his case. That leaves only one option for ending the CH's union with Gally, and that's to buy out his contract. According to Yvon Pedneault, this could happen as early as next season. Brendan Gallagher? An insider told me this week: They're going to look at this possibility in 2024, for the time being, it would be far too high a financial commitment, and the Habs have no chance of winning the Stanley Cup next year. Therefore, we might as well wait, and Hughes and Gorton can take refuge under the rule of an extended absence, which doesn't affect the day-to-day management of the salary cap.

[OPINION] Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's busy schedule (Yvon Pedneault) https://t.co/nEip6aMSnc- Le Journal de Montréal (@JdeMontreal) June 5, 2023
 Credit: Letsgohabs.com
