The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are rumoured to be in trade talks again as the Leafs may have an interest in one Oiler player.
Leafs in Need of Some Defensive Depth
Usually, the defence is a scapegoat for all the Leafs' struggles, with many placing undue blame on them for big losses and bandaid solutions to fix the team are usually centred around just acquiring another stay-at-home defenseman. However, now may be a different case. The Leafs, while not necessarily struggling, are getting thinner on defence than they should be at this point in the year. With Jake McCabe expected to miss a significant amount of time, Klingberg not playing up to his potential yet, and Giordano over the age of 40, it is clear that now is the time for the Leafs to go after another defenseman.
Leafs Look to Aquire Desharnais From Oilers
A recent rumour has arisen that the Leafs are in trade talks with the Edmonton Oilers to acquire defenseman Vincent Desharnais. The two teams were previously linked as the Leafs looked to dump Sam Lafferty, and now it appears they may re-engage in those talks. And this article did come out before Trellivan and the Leafs moved Sam Lafferty to the canucks. They did hold trade discussions with the Edmonton Oilers about Desharnais. The 27-year-old right-hander shot defenseman is six foot six and plays with an edge. Two things Treliving absolutely loves So far, in four appearances this season, Desharnais hasn't recorded a point and has seen some significant time killing penalties.

We all are upset at the Oilers bottom six. What makes it more frustrating is that the Leafs were giving Sam Lafferty to Edmonton for a pick and Desharnais. The Oilers rejected the trade because they think 27 year-old Vinny Desharnais still has some untapped potential. What a joke

It is clear that the Leafs will have to do something to bolster their defence, we now just have to wait and see what Brad Treliving decides to do.
