On Tuesday night, a deal between the Canadiens and the Canucks sent goaltender Casey DeSmith to Vancouver, in exchange for Tanner Pearson and a 3rd-round pick in 2025. It's another great personnel move for Kent Hughes, as Pearson will be an independent player next summer.

Between now and his autonomy, the forward could become a bargaining chip at the trade deadline, further enhancing the trade.

The only problem in all this is that the main interested party seems angry at having been traded. We don't know if he's reacting to a broken promise from someone in Vancouver, or because he doesn't want to play for the Habs. There are lots of possible reasons.

The reporter who covers the Canucks, Rick Dhaliwal, tried to reach Pearson, but was met with a blank stare:

"I just called Tanner Pearson and he wasn't in the mood to talk, understandably.

"He's been through a lot in the last few months. He's a popular player who will be missed in the Canucks locker room." - Rick Dhaliwal

We know Pearson had a hand injury, and it got infected. He played only 14 games last season and his hand is currently at about 80%. There was even talk of his career being in jeopardy.
