Nils Hoglander will be receiving a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety

Nils Hoglander has never received a major penalty in his career in the NHL, let alone a match penalty. Monday night against the visiting San Jose Sharks, he was assessed a match penalty for intent to injure Shark's player Kevin Lebanc. This decision came after a review by the on-ice officials.

As the second period was winding down, Hoglander took a check from Lebanc. Hoglander turned to him and seemingly kicked out the legs of Lebanc, who was shaken up on the play.

Let's take a look at the play and decide for ourselves.

Head Coach Rick Tocchet clearly did not agree with the call by the look on his face. And as it happens, there was only one incident last season where additional disciplinary action was taken for a slew-footing incident when Calgary's forward Blake Coleman was fined $5,000 for the penalty against former Jet Pierre-Luc Dubois.

For someone like Nils Hoglander, who has never been suspended, will he be facing any further league action against him?
