When he was playing in the NHL, there were several rumours that Vincent Lecavalier would join the Canadiens. It never materialized, like so many other rumours every year.

However, the Quebecer confessed that it was very close, but that he finally signed with the Philadelphia Flyers when he became a free agent. We know the rest of the story, as Vinny was never the same player after leaving Tampa Bay.

In the end, Lecavalier joined the CH as a special hockey operations advisor, and he's been adding his two cents lately. He knows Tanner Pearson well, having played with him in Los Angeles. According to Pierre LeBrun, Kent Hughes has listened to his advice.

In other words, Hughes is using the resources at his disposal, even going a step further by asking the advice of his former client, Anthony Beauvillier, who played with Pearson in Vancouver. This is where you see that a transaction is well thought-out and that it takes a whole team to make good personnel moves, not just one man.
