Two nights ago was the first game of the rookie tournament between the Canadiens and the Sabres, in Buffalo. The home team has one of the best roster of rookies, as does the Tricolore, so the duel was very promising. It ended 6-3, a defeat for Jean-François Houle's men. The spotlight was on Logan Mailloux, but one forward took advantage of the lack of interest in him to get away with a very ordinary performance. Indeed, Mailloux had a tough night, but we're talking about a youngster who was playing his first game with the CH logo after all that had happened. We can give him the benefit of the doubt, though. A lot of fans have made horrible comments about him, which is a gross exaggeration. Conversely, a forward like Filip Mesar has been very ordinary, something he can't afford. The Slovak absolutely wants to play in Laval this year, and there isn't much room for him. He absolutely has to stand out in every game, in every appearance. He simply can't afford to play average, as he was invisible, even causing turnovers in the opponent's zone on the power play. Then again, it's only one game, so let's not get too carried away. However, things aren't looking too good for Mesar, who may have to return to the OHL.
