Tonight a new report from TSN insider Chris Johnston has revealed that the Canucks could be looking to add a familiar face back into the fold at the NHL Trade Deadline. Over the last couple of weeks, the Canucks have been center stage in trade reports after they already traded J.T. Miller earlier this season. With the Canucks in the middle of so many potential discussions one of their biggest needs remains on the defensive side of the puck. With the addition of Marcus Pettersson the need for a top four option is not as prevalent but there is still a huge need for depth on defense. As a result, Chris Johnston has suggested that the Canucks take a look at landing a former Canuck and current Washington Capital.
Insider Suggests Former Canuck Could Return At The Deadline
In the report from Johnston of TSN he confirmed that the Capitals sound like they are open to trading Ethan Bear to give him another opportunity in the NHL. To this point in the season Bear had been playing primarily with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Well Ethan Bear has had a really strong year down with the Hershey Bears who are again a top team in the American Hockey League. At this point in time, it does sound as though they're willing to explore a trade for Bear. Johnston said. It sounds as though any trade for Bear would have to come with the guarantee he would have an NHL roster spot in his new home. But Bear is in the last year of his existing contract, obviously would love to work his way back to an NHL team and it does sound though that Washington is willing to accommodate trying to find him a place to play for the remainder of this season and put him in a position to earn that next deal. Due to the Canucks familiarity with Bear he could be a great option to add as depth on the NHL roster and provide minutes either on a bottom pair or in a depth role stepping in for injuries or changes of pace and opponent. With the trade deadline just a few weeks away the Canucks will need to start putting their trade plans into action and one of those targets could very well be Ethan Bear.
