Conor Garland was all smiles following last night's Canucks overtime win over the Kings, and he has extremely high praise for team captain Quinn Hughes. It was a wonderful story in itself, and Wednesday made it that much more complete. Quinn Hughes returned from a six-game layoff with the Vancouver Canucks and provided relief to a lineup that struggled on offense with its star defensemen and emotional leader on the sidelines. Everything seemed to be going perfectly for the Canucks in Los Angeles. Hughes skated as crisp as could be last night.

The Canucks went into two periods with a 2-0 lead in no small measure thanks in part to goaltender Kevin Lankinen, who appeared to be extremely solid in net. But the Kings, who ruled at home all year, did not decline quietly. They answered in the third with two tallies in a span of more than four minutes that made the game head into overtime.
Garland played overtime hero
The extra minutes proved necessary, with 1:34 remaining when Conor Garland scored his second goal of the game to give the Canucks a 3-2 win. Afterward, Garland made it simple: having Hughes on his team made all the difference. There was a bit of a spot there and I was fortunate to hit it, said Garland. It's nice to contribute because wins are all that matters. We needed to get a win and it sets us up for another big game tomorrow (Thursday) and get on a roll. Top three player in the world, just fantastic, said Garland. A leader in the room and on the ice and he's such a big boost for us.

The Canucks play their next game tonight in Anaheim, as they look to continue to push hard for a playoff spot.
