Connor McDavid spoke with the media earlier where he revealed that he knows he is struggling, and he is looking for a way to get back into good form again.

Connor McDavid realizes he has to do better. He told the media as much, admitting to his struggles and the necessity of finding a way out of them. To hear that about the world's best player is unusual, but it can't be avoided at the moment.

McDavid has no goals and just three assists in his last five games, and a woeful team-worst minus-12 rating.

"I'd be lying if I said I've been feeling good out there. It's been tough to get going, which is obviously not an excuse. I gotta find a way to get going here."

- Connor McDavid

His usual game-breaking explosiveness has been missing, and the numbers bear it out, just 19 points in his last 18 games compared to 33 in the 18 before them.

Fatigue, emotional wear of the 4 Nations Face-Off, and a subpar team around him all play their part, but this could be the toughest time of his career.

Stan Bowman will need to be busy at the deadline to help this Oilers team

Beyond McDavid, the Oilers are struggling. Head coach Kris Knoblauch needs answers soon, and general manager Stan Bowman faces a vicious test with the upcoming trade deadline.

A group that was just a goal away from winning the Stanley Cup in June of last year is now lost and plagued by gaping holes. The roster is in real trouble with horrendous goaltending, an anonymous bottom-six, and poor top-six depth.

Skinner and Arvidsson are blunders, and so many of these issues were brought forward from Jeff Jackson's deal-making before Bowman came on board. But whether it's right or wrong, now it's his to fix. Something does need to happen, and fast.
