Family Of Chris Simon Reveal Sad And Shocking Details After His Passing

Chris Simon was a former NHL enforcer in the 90s and 2000s. Sadly it was announced yesterday that Simon had suddenly passed away. Now an update has been provided by his family including some sad details.

Yesterday profoundly sad news was announced when reports confirmed that Chris Simon had passed away at the age of 52. Simon a former NHL enforcer had a successful playing career before retiring to spend time with family.

Sad news: Former NHL enforcer Chris Simon has died at age 52.

The Wawa, Ont., native racked up 1,824 PIM and 101 fighting majors in his 15-year NHL career. Simon won a Stanley Cup with the #Avs in 1996 and made Finals appearances with WSH and CGY.




Sadly today his family released details regarding how Simond passed and they are incredibly shocking.

Simon's Family Release Sad Statement Regarding His Passing



According to Simon's family, he passed away after taking his own life. The family released a statement through Simon's agent from his playing days.

Chris Simon's family issued a statement through his agent Paul Theofanous via ESPN's Kevin Weekes. «The family strongly believes and witnessed firsthand that Chris struggled immensely from CTE which unfortunately resulted in his death.


In the statement, Simon's family states that they believe CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) was the cause of Simon's passing. CTE is a topic that has been controversial throughout the NHL over the past several years. The NHL refuses to acknowledge the existence of a link between playing hockey at a high level and being diagnosed with CTE. One current agent Allan Walsh spoke about this topic regarding Simon's untimely passing

I'm angry and devastated at such a senseless tragedy. 101 fighting majors and Gary Bettman still denies the cumulative effects of repetitive head impacts. There is retired NHL players blood on Gary's hands. My condolences and sympathies to Chris' family and friends.
