Today in a surprising move San Jose Sharks forward Oskar Lindblom revealed he will be leaving the NHL to return to Sweden. The former Masterton Trophy winner leaves the NHL after spending 8 years in the NHL.

Oskar Lindblom is one of the most inspirational stories in recent memory in the game of hockey. While playing with the Philadelphia Flyers he was diagnosed with bone cancer which forced him to step away from the game he loved. Just 10 months later he was back on the ice and playing at a high level in the NHL.

Oskar Lindblom of the @NHLFlyers is the 2020-21 recipient of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL player who «best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.»

After his time with the Philadelphia Flyers came to an end he went to San Jose and joined the Sharks organization. This season he spent much of his time in the AHL while getting an occasional appearance with the Sharks in the NHL. Now due to the lack of opportunity from the Sharks, Oskar Lindblom has decided to sign in Sweden with Brynas IF.

Welcome home, Oskar Lindblom!

The 27-year-old forward returns to Gävle and Brynäs IF after seven seasons in North America.

- It feels incredibly good, I have always dreamed of coming back to Brynäs, says Oskar Lindblom.

At just 27 years old Oskar Lindblom should have plenty of years of professional hockey left in him. If he has a good season in Sweden there is the possibility he will return back to the NHL with a new team. If not he likely will be one of the best players on Brynas and look to win an SHL championship.

With Oskar Lindblom transitioning into a new phase of career we wish him all the best and hope to hear of great success from his time in Sweden.
