Fans of the Carolina Hurricanes got an exceptionally unusual game tonight as the team hosted the Colorado Avalanche. The game has been full of chaos and drama.
Hurricanes Pull Goaltender After Giving Up Two Goals In Seven Seconds
The Hurricanes went up 3-0 over the Avalanche over the course of the 1st period. With less than a minute to go it seemed like the lead was safe and the game was well in hand. However, Zach Parise then scored with 27 seconds left, killing the team's thunder.

Just seven seconds later, Sam Girard followed it up with another goal. This one was quite unusual though as it appeared as though he wasn't even trying to shoot the puck. Rather he was going for a classic dump and chase play, but the puck had other ideas as it floated into the Carolina net. Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov was completely unaware.

Hurricanes Swap Goalies Two Times In The Same Game
The shot from the neutral zone would be the last Kochetkov would face in the game. Or so we thought. Backup netminder Antti Raanta lead the team out for the second period and he did play the full frame. He was even forced to make this tremendous save on Nathan MacKinnon.

However, when the team came out for the 3rd period, once again it was Pyotr Kochetkov in the net! Pyotr Kochetkov is back in net for the Canes to start the third period. Antti Raanta did not come out for the third.

It is highly unusual for a team to switch goalies twice in the same game, but this was one of those rare occurrences. Raanta appeared to hurt himself making a save in the 2nd period, but he stayed in the game. The team would later confirm that he could not return for the 3rd period due to a lower-body injury.

Luckily for the Hurricanes, Kochetkov was perfect in the final frame and the team held on to win 5-2.
