The Toronto Maple Leafs have had an eventful past few days. It was expected that general manager Brad Treliving would address Morgan Rielly's suspension today with the media, but that has not happened. One NHL Insider seems to think he knows just why that is.

Brad Treliving Changes Mind About Addressing Rielly Suspension

Leafs reported David Alter reported last night that Brad Treliving would address the media today regarding Morgan Rielly's five-game suspension. It is not known what he intended to say about the decision, but it should be noted that the 29-year-old defenseman has never even been fined by the NHL prior to this offense. Perhaps he was planning on defending his blueliner as he likely feels the suspension was a bit harsh.

Sheldon Keefe says Brad Treliving is going to address the media tomorrow regarding the Morgan Rielly suspension.

However, we may now never know exactly what he intended to say as the Leafs executive backed off on his decision to speak to the media today. He cited Rielly's appeal as the reason why he could no longer speak on the subject.

#Leafs say Brad Treliving will not speak today as Morgan Rielly intends to appeal his suspension.

While that is a reasonable excuse, it is interesting that he was planning on speaking to the media at all. Perhaps Rielly's appeal even saved him from getting himself in trouble with the league. After all, the general manager is reportedly quite upset with how the league's office handled this case.

NHL Insider Reveals Leafs Are 'Disappointed' In How League Handled Rielly Suspension

Darren Dreger reported on TSN yesterday that the Leafs organization is deeply disappointed with the league's front office for how they have handled Rielly's suspension. The insider noted that his team sources did not use the word 'disappointed' either, but he could not use their actual words on television.

Dreger cited the fact that the suspension was leaked to the media before the team or even Rielly himself knew what the verdict was. Apparently, insider Kevin Weekes somehow got a hold of the information ahead of the team. This is not a good look for the NHL and it is understandable why the Leafs organization would be so upset. Be sure to stay tuned for updates on this important story as Rielly appeals the suspension.
