Former Quebec Nordiques associate and long-time scout Gilles Leger has sadly passed away at the age of 83. Leger worked in professional hockey for his entire adult life, touching the lives of hundreds of people around him across several leagues and multiple organizations. He spent much of his time in the NHL, primarily with the Quebec Nordiques where he spent 11 years as assistant general manager and an additional four years as a scout. He also spent time with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers. The hockey world mourns the passing of Gilles Leger, whose career in professional hockey spanned six decades as a coach, general manager, pro scout and other Hockey Operations positions for teams in the NHL, AHL and WHA. We send out heartfelt condolences to his family and the many friends he made in hockey across a lengthy career serving the game he loved.

Leger got himself involved in hockey in many ways throughout his lengthy career, often going the extra mile to finish the job. He even helped players sneak into the west during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union prevented players from leaving to play in the NHL, or any other western hockey league. Among the players he helped were NHL legends Peter and Anton Stastny.

Leger's legacy will live on through his memory and the players he helped bring to the league. He will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Gilles.
