The NHL has come under scrutiny for some teams having a competitive advantage tax-wise, and now it's been revealed just how different the travel schedule is.

Over the past year, the concept of a competitive advantage in the NHL has been spoken about at length, with many claiming teams in Florida and Vegas especially have a major advantage due to no state tax, with Canadian teams and their tax bracket being hit the hardest. Now, the conversation has expanded to travel, with one reporter on social media delving into the amount teams will travel in 2024/25, showing a significant discrepancy between teams.

Unsurprisingly, it's the teams in the North East that benefit most from smaller travel distances, as the 10 teams with the least amount of travel all come in the Eastern Conference, with the Pittsburgh Penguins having the least at 31,700 miles.

On the other hand, just three of the 16 most travelled teams in the league come from the Eastern Conference, with the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers having to deal with the most travel in the upcoming season, all travelling over 50,000 miles. Unfortunately there's no exact science to determine just how much this effects players and teams, but it's safe to say that players would much rather be on the lower end of this spectrum as they all look to chase a Stanley Cup.
