New Reports Indicate The Price For Noah Hanifin Could Be Troubling For the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs are facing a big test over the next 5 games with defenseman Morgan Rielly out. This will show whether or not the Leafs are in desperate need of a new blueliner at the deadline, or if they can manage.

Despite that, the Leafs are still looking everywhere for a defenseman who might be able to help them in a long post-season push. Their main target has been Calgary's Noah Hanifin, however, it has been reported that Calgary is looking for at least a first-rounder to start the conversation for Hanifin.

The Leafs could be in a position where they have no option but to pay the price for Hanifin, if their blueline remains banged up and in need of reinforcements.

There is a high risk in a potential trade for Hanifin, notably that he is expected to become a free agent. Reports have him wanting out of Calgary, and it could be that any trade that takes place will have an extension in place. However, if that is not the case, the Leafs will risk a first-rounder, likely next year, and a prospect/young player for a defenseman who may not make a huge impact in the playoffs. Then, he could just up and leave at the end of the year.

We will see what type of risk Brad Treliving is willing to take as the deadline approaches.
