After being ejected yet again last night Matt Rempe had a hearing today with the NHL Department of Player Safety and has been handed a suspension. Matt Rempe has been at the center of controversy after being ejected last night with many fans calling for Rempe to be banned from the NHL. Rempe on the play clearly did not let up and followed through on the hit shoving Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen head-first into the boards. The ejection was Rempe's 4th of his career in just 22 games establishing a clear and repeated pattern of dangerous play.

As a result of his dangerous actions the NHL's Department of Player Safety decided to make a major statement offering Rempe an in-person hearing which expands the amount of games he is able to be suspended. Now that Rempe has met with the NHL the league has officially announced his suspension.
Matt Rempe receives a significant suspension for boarding Miro Heiskanen
According to several new reports Rempe has now been handed a suspension for his actions against Dallas. Rempe will now be suspended for 8 games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.

This is one of the most severe suspensions that the NHL has handed out over the last decade with Rempe clearly being sent a message that his game needs to be reigned in going forward. With Rempe out the Rangers will now have to find a new physical presence to enter the lineup and fill his role. The first game that Matt Rempe will be eligible to return will be against the Rangers' rival the New Jersey Devils.

Once his suspension is done being served it will be fascinating to see what the Rangers do with Rempe. They could send him a message and demote him to the AHL or put him right back in the lineup and let him right back out there to cause chaos.
