Veteran NHL official Steve Kozari stretchered off the ice after nasty collision

The NHL ice is a dangerous place to be for anyone, and unfortunately on Saturday, an official was involved in a very scary collision.

During an early Saturday matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL official Steve Kozari found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and collided with Haydn Fleury on the ice.

Unfortunately, he was knocked unconscious immediately, and had to be stretchered off the ice, with the crowd watching on stunned into silence.

"Upon the hit with Fleury, there was a moment of unconsciousness for Steve (Kozari)" via ESPN

Prayers up 🙏

The incident was certainly unintentional from both men, as they were simply not looking where they were skating, with Fleury seemingly okay after the collision.

NHL referee Steve Kozari collided with Haydn Fleury and had to be stretchered off the ice.

The job of an NHL official is a tough one, as there is always a risk of a puck or a player hitting them incidentally, so we hope that Kozari is completely okay and wish him a speedy recovery.
