Today a new story from legendary New York Rangers reporter Larry Brooks has revealed that he believes Peter Laviolette has lost the support of his players. The New York Rangers have been a dysfunctional mess this season ever since they traded their captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks. A team that was considered a Stanley Cup favorite this season after being a perennial playoff contender in recent years the New York Rangers have completely imploded. After a tough start to the season, GM Chris Drury made a major move trading Trouba to the Ducks to try and spark the locker room to wake up. Instead, things seemed to backfire as Trouba called out the organization for their lack of professionalism and several other players made comments about the dysfunction. Then, former top-five overall pick Kaapo Kakko was traded away after expressing his frustration with his lack of ice time from head coach Peter Laviolette.

Since then things have not improved as formerly elite goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been horrendous over his most recent stretch of games and the Rangers just look completely lost on the ice.

Now with the New York Rangers near the bottom of the Eastern Conference legendary NHL journalist Larry Brooks believes that the Rangers players have lost all confidence in head coach Peter Laviolette.
Larry Brooks believes Peter Laviolette has lost the locker room in New York
In a new piece for The New York Times, Larry Brooks talked about the New York Rangers' path forward through their current struggles. Brooks reveals that the Rangers will likely have to make the difficult decision to move on from Laviolette if they want things to improve as he has reportedly lost the locker room. The Rangers have quit on their coach, they have quit on the organization, they have quit on themselves, they have quit on each other, they have quit on the fans who pay top dollar to fill the Garden and they have quit on New York, Brooks wrote If the Rangers have truly quit on their coach then there is no fixing things for Laviolette the only solution for GM Chris Drury is to cut ties and find a new bench boss. At the moment it seems like Drury is unwilling to fire Laviolette and that more roster moves will be the priority over relieving Laviolette of his duties. If the Rangers continue to struggle it is only a matter of time before Drury will have to make the decision to move on from Laviolette or risk losing his job as well.
