In what appears to be a never-ending saga, Ryan Whitney has fired back at Bruins GM Don Sweeney following his latest remarks regarding Jeremy Swayman. On Wednesday, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney confirmed that goalie Jeremy Swayman is absent from training camp, as he remains without a contract. Sweeney expressed disappointment about the situation but remained hopeful that Swayman would sign before the December 1 restricted free agent deadline. Sweeney even took some time to address some of the rumors swirling around the negotiations. A report from former NHL'er and cohost of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Paul Bissonnette, said that the Bruins had been ignoring Swayman's calls during contract negotiations. Sweeney didn't care for the report and didn't hold back during his press conference, sarcastically referring to the podcast as the Spitting Up On Yourself show.

Bissonnette wasn't the only Spittin' Chiclets host to chime in on the saga. Ryan Whitney had previously said on air that the Bruins' offer to Swayman was for roughly $6 million per year, while the goalie is seeking a deal in the neighborhood of $8 million. The hosts of the popular podcast have covered the contract impasse for weeks now, offering their opinions on the situation, which appears to have struck a nerve with Sweeney. Ryan Whitney didn't shy down this time around and fired shots right back at Don Sweeney.

Of course, with the trade of Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this offseason, the Bruins need Swayman to take the next step as a starting goalie. While Swayman proved his value with a sterling .916 save percentage in 44 games last season, the contract dispute is still ongoing, clouding things for both him and the team. Ultimately, it would seem there are high emotions on each side of this camp. While Sweeney is frustrated with the media covering this, Swayman's future with the Bruins is really the issue at the center. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail, and both sides will come to an agreement prior to the season kicking off.
