The Edmonton Oilers this morning announced the newest round of cuts from training camp as the season starts to draw closer.

This afternoon, the Oilers posted on X that they completed training camp cuts, involving three players. One player, Ethan de Jong, released from his PTO and sent back to the AHL Bakersfield Condors.

The other two prospect have also been sent to the Condors on loan, Max Wanner and Noel Hoefenmayer. These cuts were no surprise, Wanner and Hoefenmayer played last night and were needed to fill out the roster for the game.

Wanner is thought to be the second-best defensive prospect in the Edmonton organization. After he was surprisingly selected in the 2021 draft, his stock continued to rise. Wanner is a right-handed shot with great size, being 6'3. He will be heading into another year at the AHL level, with hopes of making the team next year.

Bob Stauffer has reported that Edmonton continues to cut back there roster.

With 41 players remaining at camp, there are still a couple of defensemen slots open and as well as the fourth line center position. The players that could still be in the hunt for these positions include Noah Philp, James Hamblin, Mike Hoffman, Troy Stecher, and Travis Dermott.

Coach Knoblauch will get a good look at the remaining players over the next 4 pre-season games and make final determinations as the roster continues to trim down.

With the regular season starting for the Oilers on October 9th against the Winnipeg Jets, head coach Kris Knoblauch will continue to work with his roster, but it appears that mostly veterans are left competing for the remaining team spots while the young kids have been released from camp.
