The shootout in the NHL divides opinion among fans, but according to at least a few NHLers, they'd love to get rid of it as well. For years now, fans on social media have called for the NHL to end the shootout to decide regular season games, as many believe it cheapens wins and is a luck based event that could cost teams spots in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, there's been very little movement from the NHL, even with some of the smaller changes they've made league wide in recent times. Now however, a few players have weighed in according to Elliotte Friedman, with Sam Ersson, Tomas Hertl, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen all revealing that getting rid of the shootout would be a change they'd make to today's NHL.

This comes as no shock, as goaltenders are the ones under most pressure in the situation, and with the players attempting to score having so much more opportunity to show off their skill, it puts the net minders at a major disadvantage. We are yet to hear anything to support keeping or abolishing the shootout from Commissioner Gary Bettman, but after years of hearing about the issue, there's no doubting that a call has to come soon, one way or another. If it remains, Bruins star David Pastrnak wants the NHL to adopt a European rule where the winning scorer in the shootout has that goal added to his regular season statistics, so if the players can get their way, there could potentially be some unique changes coming soon.
