The New York Islanders blew a two-goal lead to the New York Rangers in front of 70,000+ fans on Sunday, and now one player in particular is facing plenty of backlash.

Scott Mayfield forced to delete social media accounts

During that loss, defenseman Scott Mayfield took a tough penalty that allowed the Rangers the opportunity to go on a powerplay and bring the game close during their intense comeback.

While there's many factors that go into blowing a 5-3 lead with less than five minutes left in the game, Mayfield's penalty certainly didn't hep, but the reaction has been a bit over the top.

As we know, hockey players and all athletes sign up to be in the spotlight and get paid lots of money, but sometimes, hockey fans reactions are just over the top, and it's examples like this that give them a bad name.
