This evening Team Canada is once again suffering from a lack of discipline as forward Cole Beaudoin has been ejected for a vicious hit on a Czechia forward. Throughout the World Junior Championships Canada has struggled due to a lack of discipline that has cost them several games and led to a lot of criticism. This evening Canada is facing off against Czechia in a Quarterfinal matchup that could be the end of their tournament. Once again Canada is suffering from a lack of discipline as Utah Hockey Club draft pick Cole Beaudoin has been ejected. With Canada already down 1-0 to Czechia Beaudoin was looking to swing momentum in his team's favor with a big hit. Unfortunately on the play in question, Beaudoin would come in and make knee-on-knee contact with the Czech player Petr Sikora leading the him to be injured.

The play was immediately blown dead and Beadoin was initially given a two minute penalty for kneeing but it would go on to be reviewed for a major penalty by the referees. After a quick review, the referees determined that the hit was severe enough to warrant a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

The penalty for Canada and Beaudoin is the latest in a long line of discipline mistakes this year for Canada under head coach Dave Cameron. On the ensuing 5-minute penalty kill Canada would come out flying and score a shorthanded goal to tie the game up. Near the end of the man advantage for Czechia, they would score and re-gain the lead and currently are up 2-1 with time remaining on the man advantage. If Canada goes on to lose this game the penalty from Beadoin will go on to be a microcosm of the entire tournament which has been held back by penalties and a lack of scoring depth.
