Team Canada has received some horrible news regarding Cale Makar, as he suffered an unfortunate illness just one day before the showdown with the USA. Cale Makar was not at Team Canada's practice today, as it was announced he was suffering from an illness. This information was provided by Sportsnet's Luke Fox.

He is in jeopardy of missing tomorrow night's game against Team USA, as there are no updates regarding his status. Canada and the USA face off at Montreal's Bell Centre at 8 PM tomorrow night. No word yet on how serious of an illness Makar is dealing with, but it's certainly very worrisome for the Canadians, as the team is already without star defenseman Shea Theodore, who left Wednesday's game against Sweden with a wrist injury. Theodore is now considered week-to-week and is officially done from the tournament. Losing another defenseman such as Makar before the biggest game of the tournament would be absolutely devastating.

Makar played an incredible 28:06 of ice time in Canada's overtime win over Team Sweden and finished the night with two shots on goal, three blocked shots, and two takeaways. Entering the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, Makar had appeared in 57 games for the Colorado Avalanche, recording 22 goals, and 63 points in 57 games. The 26-year-old defenseman is averaging 25:48 of ice time per game for the Avs, and is certainly used to playing big minutes, and in high-pressure situations.
Defenseman Thomas Harley is meeting the team in Boston
With Theodore already out of the lineup, Canada has Dallas Stars' defenseman Thomas Harley on high alert, and he is in Boston to meet the team, once the tournament heads to Bean Town. He was ineligible to practice with the club in Montreal, as per tournament rules, which begs the question of what happens now if Makar can't go tomorrow night. Canada's game against the USA on Saturday is setting up to be a very entertaining clash of the titans. Fans are excited, as reports were out that the cheapest ticket available was an incredible $1,800 for the pair. Update: Harley is now permitted to join the team in Montreal, but there is a special clause attached to it, per Elliotte Friedman, that you can view below.
