Mitch Marner has been sidelined for the past few weeks for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now one Insider has revealed when a potential return could come.

During a matchup with the rival Boston Bruins, star Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner went down with an ankle injury, and while we've heard conflicting reports, he's yet to come close to a return.

While there's been positive updates from Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, he appears to still be some time away from a return, and now TSN's Darren Dreger has revealed exactly why that is the case.

"I'm getting somewhat conflicting information. But I do think that the Maple Leafs are wise in this approach," Dreger said. "I feel like if there were a playoff spot on the line, of course, he'd be playing Toronto Maple Leafs medical [staff] is running the show here, and Marner will be back when he's ready."

Dreger here confirms much of the speculation that's been floating around as of late, that the medical staff are forcing Marner's recovery to be as long as it needs to be to get him back to 100%, rather than rushing him back. If the team were needing him desperately, things would be different, but they need him for a playoff run, and that's when he will return.

If Marner takes too long to return, the concern may grow from Maple Leafs fans, but for now, everything appears to be on track and he's progressing well, but now, they will be extra cautious so the team can chase a Stanley Cup with No. 16 playing a key role for Toronto.
