Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Ben Danford became an instant fan-favorite Friday night after his first interaction with Gary Bettman went viral.

Drafted 31st overall, a pick originally owned by the Edmonton Oilers, Ben Danford's selection was the result of several trades. The 6'1" defenseman from the OHL beamed with excitement as he greeted members of the Leafs' brass, including Brad Treliving and Craig Berube.

However, the one executive Danford did not shake hands with was Gary Bettman. This move quickly drew attention from fans across the league, who enthusiastically cheered for the rookie.
He just earned cool points from this Edmonton Oilers fan! Bettman screwed Canada again! Payback is coming!

Fan reactions were expected, given Gary Bettman's notorious unpopularity in the sport. Danford's rookie season statistics include one goal and 33 points in 64 games with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. In the playoffs, he scored four goals and 10 points in 21 games.
Despite being projected for the second to third round, the Leafs' choice to pick him early may prove wise. Danford's debut moment has already shown why Toronto saw potential in him. His viral interaction not only bolstered his popularity but also hinted at his future as a player who could quickly become a fan-favorite in Toronto.
