NHL insider Chris Johnston revealed today that the Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to make another roster move before the season begins. Johnston was on a segment of Insider Trading when he dropped the news. While he could not be particularly specific he did say that the team is exploring options on the trade market. It is likely that this move will come sooner rather than later as we are entering crunch time with the regular season now just weeks away. Surely, he would want to solidify his roster before training camp kicks off in full, which is now just days away.

The Blue Jackets have been one of the more active teams lately, making changes to their team late in the offseason. Over the weekend, the team signed free agent forward James Van Riemsdyk to a one-year deal worth just under a million dollars.

Typically speaking, NHL teams do not like to make major changes to their roster this late in the offseason. However, Don Waddell was put in a horrible position through no fault of his own after one of his top-line forwards, Johnny Gaudreau, tragically passed away last month. As such, it stands to reason that the organization is now looking to add more forwards. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime situation, and certainly one none of us ever wanted, but at the end of the day, 12 forwards have to take the ice night in and night out. That being said, the hockey world is still mourning the loss of Johnny and his brother Matthew.

This is not typically a time of year that we see many trades occur, so it is hard to say who exactly might be available. We can assume that the teams that are expected to sell at the deadline this year would be willing to make a move now, but the specifics of such a deal could be very different given the timing of it. We will just have to see what Don Waddell comes up with.
