It's pretty safe to say that Bruins GM Don Sweeney won't be listening anymore to the Spittin' Chiclets podcast after Paul Bissonnette's latest comments.

The Bruins aren't scheduled to take the ice in Brighton until Thursday's first training camp skate, and it won't be a full roster. That's because goalie Jeremy Swayman won't be on the ice, with General Manager Don Sweeney confirming Wednesday that the 25-year-old won't report until his contract situation gets resolved.

While Swayman is a restricted free agent and the Bruins retain his rights, camp has already started and the clock is ticking. Per the NHL collective bargaining agreement, if a deal is not agreed upon by December 1, Swayman will not be eligible to play for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.

The worst-case scenario is a prolonged contract standoff, which serves neither party well. Swayman would lose key preparation for what projects to be a defining season for him, and the Bruins would be forced to go with Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi as their goaltenders. Oh boy!

It's been a long offseason, with multiple reports indicating friction between the two sides on terms of a new contract. Recently, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned the two sides are still trying to work through "philosophical differences" in their talks. Swayman reportedly was seeking a deal comparable to Charlie McAvoy's $9.5 million annual salary, leveraging the increasing salary cap and changing goalie market during an August appearance on the "Shut Up Marc Podcast".

While it remains to be seen where the final terms will come in, Sweeney refuted a number of reports as "inaccurate," taking offense with the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast of Barstool Sports in particular. Host Ryan Whitney, citing a source, said the Bruins offered Swayman a four-year deal at $6.2 million annually and hadn't returned his phone calls in weeks. Sweeney took heavy shots at them and called the program the "Spit Up On Yourself Podcast.".

Given the rumors that exist, one thing is for sure: the Bruins are going to be without their star as training camp begins for the 2024-25 season.
