The Edmonton Oilers have seemingly been preparing to place Evander Kane on LTIR this season, but now, all signs are pointing to the veteran avoiding that fate. The excitement is building in Edmonton after their trip to the Stanley Cup Finals a season ago, and with training camp opening, their fans couldn't be more optimistic about the 2024/25 season. Not everything is positive however, as Evander Kane has officially been confirmed to miss the start of the 2024/25 season with surgery required.

While many expect this news to be paired with a trip to LTIR for the veteran winger, that may not be the case after all, as a new report has emerged revealing that instead he will begin the campaign as a rostered player on Injured Reserve.

With training camp beginning, Kane has addressed the situation in his first official interview, with the veteran revealing the thought process behind waiting this long, saying that he and the team were happy to wait some time to see if the injuries naturally healed with some rest.

Kane also highlighted the due diligence that was needed when addressing the injury, as he wanted the complex injury to be fixed right the first time so he could get back to 100%, and that is something that takes plenty of time and the right process to work out. Ultimately, this was a long process that dates back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs a year ago, with Kane doing everything he could to avoid surgery, but now it has to happen, and without LTIR as a guarantee, it appears he could be back sooner than expected and ready to contribute to a Stanley Cup push.
