The trade deadline is still nearly two months away but teams are making moves, as was seen today by two divisional rivals in the Jets and Blackhawks.

The Winnipeg Jets are finalizing a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks regarding a trade between these two divisional rivals.

Dmitry Kuzmin and Isaak Phillips are the players involved

Defenceman Isaak Phillips is being traded by Chicago to Winnipeg in exchange for defenceman Dmitry Kuzmin, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports.

Phillips, 23, has played in three games for the Blackhawks this season, where he's scored one goal.

In 56 career NHL games over four seasons with the Blackhawks, the former fifth-round draft pick Phillips has two goals and 12 points.

Phillips has a brutal -37 rating in his brief NHL career, however, it's hard to judge a young defender on one of the league's worst teams during that timeframe.

Even still, relative to his Chicago teammates during that time, his possession numbers have been poor, so hopefully moving to a contending team can help his game flourish.

Kuzmin, 21, was selected in the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Jets but unfortunately has yet to make his NHL debut.

Kuzmin has one goal and four points in 21 games with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL this season.

Only this season has Kuzmin established himself as somewhat of a regular in the AHL. He split the 2023-24 season between the Jets' AHL affiliate and their ECHL team in Norfolk, and his numbers didn't jump off the page in either league.
