Today a new interview with NHL insider Frank Seravalli discussing the Edmonton Oilers trade plans revealed he does not expect the team to address a big need.

Heading into the NHL Trade Deadline the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to several players including star goaltender Thatcher Demko.

The Oilers' need for a goaltender has been debated all season long with many believing an upgrade is needed while others believe in what the team currently has in the lineup already.

Stuart Skinner has been playing well this season and has shown an ability to be a starting goalie on a playoff team.

Backup goaltender Calvin Pickard has been more suspect with up-and-down stretches.

In some weeks Pickard looks to be a borderline starter and then in others, the Oilers will lose games due to the poor performance of the goaltending.

The unpredictable nature has led many to believe that the Oilers would look to find a player with more upside and stability in the net.

However, tonight a new report from Frank Seravalli has confirmed that likely will not be the case at the deadline.

Frank Seravalli Does Not Expect The Edmonton Oilers To Acquire A Goalie At The Deadline

In a new interview with Oilers Nation hosted by Tyler Yaremchuk, Seravalli spoke about the Edmonton Oilers trade deadline plans.

By far the most surprising thing that Seravalli revealed is that Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers do not feel they need a goaltender and that position is far down their list of potential upgrades at the deadline.

I haven't got the sense from the Oilers yet as to whether or not (goaltender) is a position they'd like to improve on, Seravalli said on Oilersnation Everyday. My guess would be, having not asked the question, given all the other things we've spoken about on the wishlist, it would probably be a fourth or fifth option.

Even with goaltender being so low down on the Oilers' list Seravalli still believes there is a chance the team could come out of the deadline with a goalie.

If goaltenders do not come off the board at the deadline the Oilers could address other needs and then come back to the position as a last-minute add before the deadline passes.

But with that said, I think this is a really unique year. Because there are so few teams looking for goaltending help, you might be able to add someone who could potentially provide insurance or at least a good feeling for you and your team, with a late to mid-round pick. This could be the year you find a bargain-basement option that helps you sleep a little better at night.

Whether they address their need at goalie or not the Oilers are expected to once again go all in at the trade deadline.

As moves are made by the Oilers we will pass along all the latest news and analysis.
