Today one of the Edmonton Oilers' key defensemen has decided to change agents in the middle of crucial extension talks with GM Stan Bowman. With the NHL Trade Deadline approaching in just a couple of weeks contract extensions with pending free agents are reaching all-time importance. The Oilers need to decide which players to move into the future with and which ones are expendable to pick up other veteran impact players. Today's reports have provided a major update on extension talks between the Oilers and defenseman Ty Emberson, whose contract is expiring. According to reports negotiations seem to have stalled leading Emberson to change his agency to try and push things toward a potential contract agreement.
Ty Emberson Fires His Agent Amidst Contract Talks With The Oilers
This afternoon Bartlett Hockey announced on X that they were excited to welcome Ty Emberson to their family as one of the many players they represent in the hockey world.

This announcement seemed to come out of nowhere as there had been no indication that Emberson had left his agents at Forward Hockey. The move clearly signals that Emberson is not happy with how talks are going between himself and GM Stan Bowman and that things need to be changed up and thrown in a blender. Emberson is just 24 years old and has been a solid puck-moving presence whose defensive metrics look fantastic for the Oilers' defensive unit this season. Despite his lack of offensive production Emberson has done well wearing many different hats in different roles for the Oilers on a night-to-night basis.

With the Oilers needing to keep all of the defensive talent they can re-signing Emberson would be a smart move. As the NHL Trade Deadline comes closer it will be interesting to follow this story and see if the Oilers and Emberson's new representation can lock up an extension to keep him around long-term.
