The NHL has never really had a reputation for being the most inclusive league in North America. Last season the league started to crack down on team pride nights when Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov decided the rainbow jerseys suddenly offended him. One by one other players around the league followed suit until whole teams began to reveal official stances on the subject. <h2>NHL Cancels Pride Jerseys</h2> During the offseason, in a highly controversial move, the NHL decided to ban pride jerseys from warm-ups league-wide. The NHL remains adamant that hockey is for everyone, but the league's actions speak louder than the slogan, which has become somewhat of a joke among LGBTQ+ and queer hockey communities. While last season the headlines were dominated by players refusing to participate in pride-nights, now we are starting to see some players stand up for what they think is right. Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid recently shared his opinion on the subject expressing his disappointment with the NHL in how they have handled this matter. <q>I know in Edmonton, we were one of the first teams to use the Pride Tape. In our dressing room, we strongly feel that hockey is for everybody. That includes the Pride Nights. I don't think it had to have been a distraction, It could have been a non-issue while focusing on the good that was coming out of those nights.</q> While it seems like it might be a difficult task to get the NHL to reverse their decision, there are very few, if any, players in the league that carry as much influence as Connor McDavid. As arguably the league's most advertisable player, the NHL ought to consider how he feels about this subject.
